About Kevin Barrett
“Insouciantly slinky” is what Katie Malloch [JazzBeat/CBC] calls Kevin Barrett’s guitar playing. He leads his own contemporary jazz ensemble, which has released two CD recordings: Kevin Barrett Trio: "JAM" (1999) and Kevin Barrett Group: "Share the Wealth" (2002). Both have received critical acclaim and considerable local and national airplay. Kevin has performed, as a leader and side-musician, in jazz festivals, clubs and concert venues across the country, while maintaining a continuous presence on the Toronto scene. He is also known for his versatility as a side musician, playing jazz, pop, rock, reggae, blues, country, folk and classical music in a wide variety of settings. Kevin has appeared as co-producer on several recordings recently, including "Live at Statler's" with Julie Michels, as well as Lisa Lindo’s “I Hear Music" and Boo Watson’s “Opening Moves”. Jaymz Bee’s Royal Jelly Orchestra, DK Ibomeka, Ron Davis & Lori Cullen, and Jay Boehmer have also recently released CDs featuring Kevin’s playing. He also teaches, both privately and in workshop settings (Kevin is on the faculty for the Jazzworks jazz camp held near Ottawa every summer). Kevin is a proud member of the Toronto Musicians’ Association (local 149, American Federation of Musicians.) Kevin is always available
for new bookings and musical opportunities.
